Laser hair removal

because, who's got time for regrowth?

what is laser anyway?

we're not saying laser will solve all your problems

but it might solve one or two.

ingrown hairs. thick hair. stubble. don't want to grow your hair for waxing. unwanted dark hairs. irritation. shaving rash. can't be bothered to shave every damn day.

we got you

The science(y) bit

Our 5000w Eneka pro diode laser is the most powerful medical grade laser on the market.

Laser uses a highly concentrated beam of light which is then absorbed by the melanin in the hair, creating a heat high enough to kill off the stem cells in the follicle. Once the follicle is destroyed, it can't grow hair. Simple.

Just like waxing, it's all about hair growth cycles. We need the hairs to be in the anagen (active growing) stage to be able to target them. This just means we need multiple treatments to get all the hairs.

With consistent treatments, laser offers a more permanent solution to hair removal over waxing or shaving.

here's the rules

hair colour

Because laser light targets the melanin in the hair follicle, best results are found with dark hairs

laser light can't penetrate red, white or blonde hairs, it's just science.

skin colour

Because laser light is absorbed by melanin, we can't effectively treat darker skin tones (skin tones 5 or 6) with a diode laser. You just won't

This is due to a risk of the laser light being too strongly absorbed by the melanin in the skin instead of the hair & causing damage. There are laser technologies which can treat skin tones 5 + 6. You'll need a specialist clinic that uses a ND:Yag (1064nm) machine and has bags of experience. find your skin tone here

quick note - we can't laser over tattoos, but we an go around them.

commitment

Just like waxing, laser isn't a one and done.

you'll need multiple sessions spaced 4 -12 weeks apart.

There are many factors which determine how many sessions you'll need, we can't give you a definitive time frame, that would be unfair. We are aiming for up to a 90% reduction of hair overall. Imagine have 90% less hair, dreamy or what!?

So, we are born with approx. 5 million hair follicles on our body, many of which are dormant and don't grow thick, dark hairs. Hormone changes due to age, pregnancy or medication can suddenly kick dormant follicles into action meaning laser top ups (1-2 sessions a year) might be needed to zap them away.

laser bs

there so much bs in the laser world.

promising you only need 6 sessions. that you'll never grow a single hair again. That it works on all hair colours. That you won't have to shave or wax ever again and you'll wake up looking like barbie every morning for ever and ever and ever

if a company is offering you a deal that's too good to be true, well, you know.

at wax it, we've been hair removal specialists for a hella long time. A small company that really cares about our clients + only wants the best results for them. no bs, ever.

1

Consultation

Book a no obligation laser consultation at the wax it studio to discuss starting your laser journey. Remember, laser only works on dark brown & black hair.

We will assess your hair, skin + suitability for laser and write up a treatment plan. This will include a patch test.

2

Choose how to pay

At wax it, we want to be flexible. So, you can either pay as you go, or choose a laser membership.

A membership lets you pay monthly for minutes of laser, rather than pay per area.

This means you can split the cost, change or add on different areas of the body when you choose + save money!

Laser faq's

Can I have laser hair removal?

Probably! Laser works on dark hair only, so If the hair is red, white, grey or blonde you'll be sticking with waxing. You also can't have laser while you're pregnant or breastfeeding, you just need to wait for 3 months after.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal works by using concentrated light energy to target and damage hair follicles, preventing future hair growth. The melanin, or pigment, in the hair absorbs the light, which turns into heat that destroys the follicle without harming the surrounding skin. This process is known as selective photothermolysis and is most effective on hairs in the active growth stage, which is why multiple treatments are necessary.

Is it permanent?

Yes! Laser permanently reduces hair growth. Those follicles we were able to efficiently destroy in the anagen phase will never be able grow a hair again. We aim for a 80-100% reduction in all hairs. Humans are born with millions of hair follicle, some of which lay dormant for many years. Dormant hair follicles can start to grow terminal (thick + dark hairs) due to age, hormonal changes or medications at any time, which is why "top up" sessions are needed 1-2 times yearly, to kill off these now active hair follicles.

How many treatments are needed?

This totally depends on the human + the area we are treating, typically you can expect to need at least 6-12 sessions. We can't and won't promise you'll be hair free in a certain amount of sessions. no bs here. This is why we offer a laser membership, so you can end your laser journey when you're happy with your results. We need to do multiple sessions because of the hair growth cycles. Laser can only work on hairs that are in the active growing stage and we only have around 10-30% of all hairs in this stage at any one time.

How many weeks apart will my sessions be?

This depends on the treatment area. Typically for face we will start you on 4 weeks apart. For the body it's 6. These intervals will need to increase as you get less hairs. So anywhere from 4 to 12 weeks. We will keep you updated on your journey depending on your results.

Can you treat red, blonde or white hairs?

No. Only black and dark brown hairs will absorb laser light. Any hairs that are grey/white in the area treated won't be able to be targeted. Its annoying but we don't make the rules, its science.

Is it painful?

No. we use ice packs to fully chill + numb the skin before treatment. You might feel a sensation like tightening or snapping but mostly you'll feel very little.
